We all know it happens! You had one to many drinks and not enough water. Now your eyes have those dreaded dark circles, your lips are as dry as can be, and your head is pounding. New Year's Eve is a night of celebration to bring in a New Year, so it is completely normal to have celebratory drinks with family and friends. We wanted to share our favorite tips to rejuvenate your skin to get you back on track for your NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!
WASH YOUR FACE
Get your face nice and clean before even thinking of taking on the day. We are sure some spots were missed when removing your makeup last night, so be sure to give your skin a good deep cleanse with something like our Sorella Apothecary Lychee Willow Bark Deep Clean Cleanser. Follow your wash up with your favorite hydrating toner (or a toner without a high alcohol content). We adore the Sorella Apothecary Watermelon Mint Toner! The watermelon helps to cool the skin while the mint help refresh the skin and your senses (it can also be used over your makeup for a pick me up)!
REHYDRATE YOUR SKIN
Hydrating your body is extremely important during a hangover. For your skin it is even more crucial. To rehydrate your skin fast, try using a topical hydrating product. This should help attract or retain other hydrating molecules to the your skin. (Fun Fact: Did you know the skin is the last organ to receive nutrients from items we eat/drink?)
Using products that contain hydrating products like hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, or snow mushroom extract (which is found in our Sorella Apothecary Main Squeeze serum) will allow your skin to replenish its water supplies and make your skin look and feel fresher.
APPLY A HYDRATING EYE MASK
There is absolutely nothing that feels better than an under eye mask while you have a hangover. I'm sure there is a science behind it because it is AH-MAY-ZING. Apply your favorite under eye sheet mask to help relieve any puffiness and darkness from dehydration. Our favorite eye sheet mask is Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Mask.
REHYDRATE YOUR BODY
Drinking water with electrolytes and vitamins will help restore your body faster. We love to also drink tea with ginger, peppermint, or chamomile to help settle our stomach.
REST
It can be hard to do sometimes but the best thing for a hangover is to rest! Your body repairs itself during your sleep cycle so taking a little cat nap around noon won't be such a bad thing.
RETHINK YOUR DRINK
Next time try avoiding drinks with high sugar content! Choose something like vodka with flat water, and either a lemon or a lime. Sugars tend to cancel out the taste of alcohol which makes us consume more. With this simple concoction the only sugars present are the natural ones from the lemon or lime! So stick to the basics next time and it will save you the trouble of the hangover.
